What kind of security are you after? Somewhere to store passwords or sensitive login info, or protection against viruses and malware, or something else?

If it's viruses / malware there's virtually no need at all on iOS devices as yet.

If you're after a strong password manager, there are a number of very good apps around. My top recommendation would b e 1Password - a superb app on iPhone, iPad and both Mac and Windows desktop.

The best security to start out with is to enable your password from settings.

If you are talking device protection, install "Find iPhone" app on both devices. If you are jailbroken, iCaughtU is a cool Cydia (free) app that sends out an email with location & pic if someone enters wrong passcode on lockscreen.

Setup an iCloud account so you have the ability to remote wipe your iPad. If you ever lose it or it ever gets stolen you can login to icloud.com and wipe it and not have to worry about your data being stolen.

Also, setup a pass-code lock and set it to erase data after 10 failed entries. This will make it so if someone does have your iPad and you don't have access to remote wipe it (i.e. the iPad has no internet) if he tries to access the data he won't be able to without eventually it all being erased.
