I can think of so many things to say here. Get a cage? A bullet?
Okie doke serious now. Have you tried a reset? First close all apps in the task manager. (double click home button from home screen. Hold finger in an app till it shakes then click the x on all of the apps in the task manager. )
Now hold the power button and home button at the same time. If ore the slide to power off. When you see the Apple symbol release the buttons and wait a minute.
Hopefully this will help your phone. It is an old phone. What iOS are you using?

Cage and bullet have ? after each. If that was supposed to be so then what are the questions. Sorry I do not inderstand.
I do not want to do a reset if it means starting from scratch. iOS if that means software version then it is 4.2.1.
Please advise if this is your suggesction.

Thank you

The reset Rugaby explained how
To do does not remove any app or data. Call it an extended reboot of the device. It is a complete shutdown of the phone and restarts everything, so it does take longer than a normal powering on.
