After reading this, I'm glad I have the V1.
(sorry if this has already been posted)

Basically you end up pay $160 more for the new iPhone

The chart is a little confusing so I did my own math.

iP Price Data Text Total (after 2 years)
V1 $399 $20 $0 $879
V2 $199 $30 $5 $1039

1039 - 879 = 160

so instead of paying 399 for a phone you are paying 559 (or 659 for 16gig)

I like the v1 better :)

IMO, anyone complaining about what amounts to an additional $6.67 per month over two years probably couldn't afford the iPhone in the first place.

Just saying'...

I understand where you are coming from, but I would be very careful making such a bold statement.

Many people are pressed on money in the first place, and don't always realize that there is more to the price of a phone than the price of a phone.

I think the point of this thread is to show that having the iPhone 3G is not truly cheaper, not to tell people not to purchase the 3G.

Well I think anyone that's been following the iPhone 3G introduction since Monday knows that the iPhone 3G data and text plan will cost an additional $15/month. No way someone thinks that's cheaper even with a $200 - $300 purchase price.

Jesus Christ. How many more threads are there gonna be about this? Difference between V1 and V2? One is subsidized and the other is not. Same with every other phone out there. Do the math. Of course the one where the cell company is paying half the price of the phone its gonna be more expensive over the long term. Data plan? Same as any other smart phone that ATT had. $30 an month.

Wow, $160 over two years? I sure can think of ways I blow $80 bucks a year(let alone a month) of stupid stuff. Think I can afford it. $6 more an month for twice the speeds?

People ***** and moan and the lack of 3G on V1, but don't think about the costs that come with 3G. Welcome to reality.

Well theyre comparing the overall price of the two phones...not monthly. If you compare the phones after two years its a big number, but im sure many people would agree that $6.67 or however much it was wont make a difference.
