iPhone 4 back glass, gorilla or not?

I know that Apple has confirmed that the front of the iPhone 4 uses Corning Gorilla Glass. My concern is with the back of the iPhone. It being glass, it is highly susceptible to breaking. I'd be more at ease if I knew they used Gorilla Glass on the back. I would assume they do, but does anyone know for sure?

No way. I accidentally dropped my phone from about 3 ft and the glass shattered.

I agree with GSA, there is no way that stuff is as strong as the front

i don't think iPhone has gorilla glass. but i think it should. if not gorilla glass then plastic or something that can handle small drops. i mean c'mon it is a cell phone. and it is kind of tiny. it does have a tendency to slip now and again.

While "technically" the glass used in the iPhone 4 is not Gorilla Glass as a named product, it is virtually the same stuff.
The big question is why, if that same glass used on the front is supposed to be used on the back, why does the back shatter so easily.
The answer is pretty obvious, but never spoken of, and will never be mentioned directly by Apple. They skimped on the back glass to cut down costs.

Does the back glass have as much support as the front screen?

Nope, but then again, it's held in place by so little that it should have enough room to "flex" or shift and not shatter.

Okay, this thread got me quite paranoid. I shall have my Otterbox or any other case that completely covers my whole iPhone on at all times.

no need to be paranoid. I currently have the boxwave Pure Crystal Slip case on my phone (as I wait for lifeproof to write me back about getting a replacement).
I have dropped my phone with this cheap rubberized case at least half a dozen times from about waist high, and not a scratch. I even watched it bounce on the corners as I dropped it getting out of a car (too much in my hands to manage the phone).
The people that have shattered the back of their phones most likely did NOT have any type of protection on it. The few that did are way outside the norm.

according to Apple, they are the same, but according to the amount of damage the back takes over the front, the evidence says otherwise.
