Happened tonight for the second time. No apps running or in recent apps queue but the phone got pretty warm and battery life decreased rapidly. Rebooting seemed to solve the problem. But why is this happening? Any ideas? Thanks.

Something running in the background? I have the habit of closing everything out of the multitasker.

No -- nothing running. As I said, the recent apps queue (which may or may not include multitasking apps) was empty. I met a guy on the bus before I got my phone who said that his phone actually shut down once and displayed an overheating message. So I think it's a known problem. I just wondered if anybody here knew anything about it.

Um...nothing ever runs in the background. My V1 would get really hot. So I called Apple care and they set an appt to have Apple genius look at it. When I got there they just replaced it.

    I'd recommend starting there.

Sometimes your email can get hung up when you have it set to manual or fetch. Otherwise it's a good idea to turn all smart phones off once a day to clear everything.

I went to the store last night and got a replacement. No problem. So let's see what happens.

I just took my phone off charge and It's very hot! I know it gets a little warm when charging, but this is hot. I didn't get any kind of warning but is there anything I can do to stop it from getting hot? It's never happened before just now. Thanks!

Seems like your replacement is worse than the original. I read it is difficult for you to make it to an Apple store but I think it would be in your best interest to make that trip.

My iPhone just shut off with overheating message, but the phone was cold... I was just watching an iMovie video and BAM! it was sometimes respiring once or twice before but I've had for almost two months.... First problem. I think I just had to shut it off and on or maybe I should remove winterboard?

Happened to me like five times in one day but the iPhone 4 was in 100' weather on boat all day. Was annoying but understandable. Put it in shade it cooled down and worked. But otherwise I wouldn't accept it. Something like the iPhone 4 needs to be reliable cause one day you really need it for whatever reason and it won't work. Return it

Incorrect... Certain apps most definitely run in the background.
