I have a unlocked iPhone. Should it sync with the music I downloaded into iTunes from CD's or will it only sync with music I purchased on iTunes?

Hi, It is a unlocked phone using T-Mobile. I'm not familiar with jailbreak. I plug my IPone into the USB port and it syncs my contacts, pictures and then never get to iTunes. I get a message saying the sync is finished ? I even trashed iTunes and then downloaded it again but that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated. Using a Macbook. I also have a PC but don't have iTunes installed on it.

-Open iTunes and plug in your iPhone
-click on the iPhone in the devices column (on the far left).
-now you should see the summary page for your iPhone with tabs at the top (Summary, Info, Ringtones, etc).
-Click on the "Music" tab
-Make sure the "Sync Music" checkbox is checked.
-if you want to sync ringtones, photos, or video, do the same thing in their respective tabs.

lemme know if you are still having problems.

I did what you said (even printed it out). I have a check mark in Sync Music, a dot in all the music choices and the sync goes through everything and says it is finished before getting to iTunes.

-if you want to sync ringtones, photos, or video, do the same thing in their respective tabs.

lemme know if you are still having problems.

ok, try this now:

-go back to the iPhone summary page
-make sure "manually manage music and videos" is NOT checked (ie you do not want this checked).

I went to the summary page and I only have a check mark in Sync only checked songs and videos. (I don't have any videos)

hmm... how much music do you have (gigabytes)? and how much storage does your iPhone have (4, 8, or 16GB)?

if you have more music than your iPhone can handle, iTunes may not sync any of it. If this is the case, you will have to create playlists of the songs you want on your iPhone, and choose the playlists you want to sync in the "music" tab on your iPhone page.

Just for fun I tried to sync a Ringtone that I downloaded. That worked fine.

I wanted to thank everyone for trying to help. I had the phone upgraded to version 1.4 and now everything is working including iTunes.

cool, glad you got it working. It's weird that an old software version woud cause such a huge problem...

what version of iTunes do you have?

I had just updated to the latest version. I think it is 7.6 (I'm writing from my PC, only have iTunes on my Mac.)
