What do you need to enable the iPhone to be used as auxillary ipod for your car...

the normal jack seems not to work seeing as the iPhone has 3 notches?

I am not sure, my boss was having problems with it, i have not yet tried it

The $10 Belkin headphone adapter at the Apple store to fit the narrow diameter of the iPhone headphone jack.

It plugs right in and works with the iPod adapters in both my cars (one is Pioneer, the other Jensen)... the plugs seems the exact same for me between the phone and my two iPods

Same here...I have a Sony head Unit, plugs right in the front and even works as a phone. It's cool because i'll be driving listening to music, then a call will come in, the music fades, i hit answer, and im talking aloud over my car speakers! Some echo happens if its too loud, (and i just got the jawbone BT so I don't do that too much anymore), but its fun to show off the automation to my friends!
