I plug in the phone and it sync's fine. After 5 or so minutes, the phone disappears from the iTunes display window. Is there someway to prevent this or get it to reappear without having to unplug the phone and plug it in again?

    Thanks.

Sounds like a bad cable. I have one that does that as well. Pisses me off.
Here's the big question. When it's not showing in iTunes, and the phone is locked, if you tap the home button, does it show that it's charging? that's the big test right there. If the phone isn't even charging and is not in iTunes, then your cable is either bad, or not directly suited for the iPhone. ( I am finding that a lot of "iPod" cables are not exactly compatible with the iPhone, although most seem to work the first couple times you use it.)

It charges (and shows that it is) even when it's not showing up in iTunes.

    try this.

go to my computer > device manager > and look for Apple USB iPhone device, will be under USB or mobile devices. with your iPhone still connected to the PC, uninstall the device, and reboot (with the iPhone still connected!).

i had to do this cos of a corrupt driver and it worked fine.
