I'm leaning towards upgrading, but I can't get 3G service where I'm at. How is the speed when 3G isn't available?

I have great 3G at work and no 3G at home. I turn it on at work and off at home and this works out great for me. Battery life is longer.... speed is great when I most need it and..... I may be going crazy but I swear it seems to load faster than my original iPhone!

Speed on Edge is better than it used to be. I don't really miss 3G when I can't get it.

I swear EDGE on my new phone is faster too but I assumed it was just me being happy I finally got my new 3G. Only took two weeks on DF.

Edge is, and has always been painfully slow for me here in S. FL. I'm talking like 150K or so, not much better than dial up, and on graphics intensive webpages, it was often getting stuck while loading.

3G is a whole different story for me, I average about 1.2 Mpbs, often times its around 1.5 Mbps, Ive gotten well over 2 Mbps many times as well, at its worst, 800K or so, it's still more than 5 times faster than Edge.

I'm very glad I no longer have to rely on Edge when I can't get wifi.

I have read that there is evidence in speed tests that Edge is now faster even on V1 phones possibly due to improvements in rendering software.

I think the Safari Browser was touched up to boost the speed. I remember reading something about Apple tweaking the browser to cut down load times, but I thought it was primarily for 3G surfing. It must have benefitted EDGE also.

When 3g isn't available, does it then use Edge?
