iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, you qualify for a discounted iPhone upgrade at two-year commitment pricing plus $250, along with a two-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 11/17/2011
This is the offer on my AT&T site. Reading in just now I'm trying to figure out what the last sentence means. Is this saying that I could upgrade for $250 when the iPhone comes out or if I wait until 11/17/2011 I could upgrade for nothing? Or is it saying that I have to wait until 11/17 to upgrade for $250?

How do you read that?

Sounds like the text I get. I'll be eligible for a full upgrade on 11/18/2011 unless AT&T moves the date forward when the iPhone 5 is announced.

But do you have to pay the $250? What does the 'full discount' on 11/17 mean?

@Cassax, it sounds like that you could upgrade to an iPhone now for $250 OR you will be eligible for a fully subsidized upgrade in November. Should be $199, if prices stay the same for upgrade prices. Is your contract up around that time?

They will. It's less than 30 days; they've pushed them forward several months in the past.

Oh, and you heard it here first! (y)

I'm convinced they will push it forward also but if they don't the way I read that is the upgrade is at two-year commitment pricing plus $250, along with a two-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. $199+ $250 +$18 so it's going to cost me $467 for my new iPhone.

You have to pay the iPhone price of $200 if you upgrade on 11/17. The $250 is the ETF before.
Ok, that sounds ($199) the same as what I paid for the iPhone4. That's good, Gazelle is offering about $320 right now for and iPhone4 in excellent condition.

Gazelle is an online pawn shop. That price is an "estimate." They'll offer you $320 online, then they'll lower that offer after receiving it (you'll have the option of having it shipped back to you at that point) and flip it for a profit on eBay. Expect to get about half its value from Gazelle.

Craigslist works great as well.
I am planing on handing it (iPhone4) down to my son as I always do . And then his becomes hubbies (he is last in chain) and the 3Gs 32GB I hopefully get unlocked somehow (like to keep it as a spare)
AT&T didn't know how to unlock it ? And at the Appple store we were told they do not unlock phones?

There are people out there who can unlock it. It's becoming a bit more "under the table" these days though.

10/27/11 is when my contract is up. This timing is lining up nicely. I'll be going the unlocked 3GS on Craigslist/eBay route as well.

Edit: Totally just throwing that info out there for whoever is interested (read: no one).

The way I read that is that in order to upgrade, you pay for the iPhone (let's say 199) and you pay 250 (for what I don't know) and then you pay 18.

Total $467

You will pay the subsidized price of the phone +$250 if you upgrade before you're fully eligible. It sucks because last year it was $200 on top of the fully subsidized price.

In my opinion, AT&T won't push the eligibility dates forward a few months like last year. I believe they did that in anticipation of the iPhone being available on Verizon, so they wanted to get more customers to renew their contract for fear of losing them.

That's the price for full subsidization. Partial is $450 and no subsidization is $650. So they raised the price by $50. I don't mind and I certainly don't feel like I'm getting ripped off. After all, it's a 2-year contract on a $650 phone. If they let us upgrade with full subsidization any sooner than 24 months, we're getting a great deal.

It's not a few months; it's one month (for those of us who upgraded on release day). I disagree with you. I think AT&T will push it forward by 4 weeks. They want to keep us happy, not lose us to Verizon and Sprint. They can lose us just as easily this year.

Just signed in to MyAT&T to check if there was a change in the upgrade status for the one ;line thats 4 months out and once I clicked on the upgrade tab, it went to a message saying that the system was being updated and it would be back soon. Signed out and tried again same thing. Anyone else having this? Do we think they are bumping up the upgrades?

I just checked my AT&T account online, and they're telling me I can't upgrade until February 2012, which is crap because like many others, I received the phone on launch day, and I'd like to be able to do the same thing. Sucks.

Jeez, folks. I'll say it again: your upgrade status might change after the announcement. It changed for a lot of us last year; it might happen again. How about showing a little patience until after tomorrow? ;)

If you stay with AT&T you don't have to go on craigslist you can get the 3G for free.
