HI everyone - you lot are amazing having purchased my iPhone last week and then having left it with a computer fixing (acer) specialist for 3 days after it started crashing on me. YOU lot gave me the answer that they couldn't.
Initially everything was fine then my laptop started blue screening when I plugged in my iPhone. I spent hours onto Apple and o2 and another iPhone trying to fix it - gave up and gave it to the 'experts' they gave up and came up with the classic - "wipe everything and start again". but a short trip on your website and OMG you had the answer.. delete everything on the 'camera roll' and the USB's won't get confused with 'is it a camera? what is it? CRASH".....
The only thing now is I can't take pictures....
Thankyou soo much you've made my Xmas - I just hope this is not a dream! - Rachel Morris:laugh2:

If you take a picture will it crash again? I wonder if it's just random when the pic gets corrupted or something.

I think she means that she can take pictures all she wants, but when she plugs the phone into her computer(with pictures in the camera roll), it crashes.

I'm guessing your not jailbroken. If you were, however, there may be a way to fix this.

Short of that, however, restoring your iPhone is probably your best bet. You may have to restore as a new device, however, so make sure your data is properly synced to external programs or services.

Rachel,

Im a little confused, are you saying your PC started crashing when you plugged your iPhone to it than by deleting your photos it corrected the problem? Than you started to experience the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on your laptop soon after?

Do you have both a PC and a laptop or just a laptop?

Oh ok, I'm wondering if she has the wrong program assigned to open up once she plugs her iPhone into her laptop?

Damn, Im not going to sleep all night trying to figure this one out.

Me neither. Between this and trying to figure out how to make my iPhone smarter, I can tell it's going to be a long night.

hi everyone
basicallly I have an acer aspire 5600 18months old runing xp and iTunes version 8. laptop runs fine iPhone works fine when I take a picture and store it in my camera roll the laptop blue screen crashes until I delete the picture. I've got over 400 pictures downloaded from my laptop in separate folders on my iPhone that don't affect anything. it's just when i store a picture in camera roll and connect up the iPhone to the laptop it bing bongs and crashes? friends have a spare Apple mac notebook that I'm going to borrow so that I can take pictures with my iPhone - little drastic but only solution at moment.
Have done the folllowing to try and correct
- reinstalled iTunes
- new iPhone
- updated drivers
- installed service pack 3 update
- all USB ports are working fine
- have tried phone in all USB ports and still crashes
- have run virus checker
- have run spyware checker

I do have a digital camera that I use but I plug in the sd card into the reader to get pics not connecting via USB....

as i say it spent three days with an acer specialist and they gave up? It was you lot that solved the problem - the only thing is i'm a bit miffed that I can't be like everyone else.

Well if a new iPhone didn't solve it, then it's something weird with your laptop, and that's beyond my expertise as I've never owned one. Have you reinstalled XP/Vista (whichever you have)?

Rachel,

You obviously have a conflict going on there somewhere. What I would suggest doing is unplugging all your other USB devices, rebooting your computer than plug your iPhone in and see of that corrects the problem.

If that doesn't work I would reboot your computer and boot to the safe mode (How to boot to the safe mode). Once windows starts in the safe mode click on the start button>settings>control panel>hardware>device manager. Scroll to the bottom of your devices, the last category will be your "Universal Serial Bus Controller", click on the plus sign you should see between 8 and 10 devices, right click on each device and delete it, once you've deleted each USB device reboot your computer.

When you reboot Windows it will reinstall each USB device and it should resolve the conflict your having.
