i remember Apple used to give you 10% off of your purchase for trading in your ipods towards a newer one. Does this still work for the iPhone?

AFAIK Apple no longer offers their iPod trade-in program. Even if they did I doubt they would offer a discount on an iPhone since the products are not ment to replace each other.

Small Dog Electronics has a trade-in program
Looks you can get an average of about $100 off a new iPod.

NextWorth in Canada has a similar program

Tweter and Dell also used to have programs but I can't figure out if they are still valid or not.

congrats on the 400th post. Maybe I can work my way up there one day.

On to the meat and potatoes...
I also read that Rapid Repair has a iPhone buy-back program for the iPhones at more than 10% that Apple may offer you. I would say sell it to them, and take the $100 you get from them and use it towards the upgrade.

Why would you want to?

10% of even the unsubsidized price is only about $50; you can easily get more than that on ebay (Mine's at $192 and I still have 2 days left in the auction...).
