My husband’s iPad 2 is showing new software available...but it's 5.1.1. He never upgraded to it. It's not offering iOS 6.

I never upgraded to 5.1.1 either, but 6 was offered to me...any ideas?

If I read that right, the only update that you should see is ios6. I think it only offers you the latest software. As far as necessary to update, I say you don't have to do it. you will find with updates battery life can improve and any minor bugs that may be there will be fixed.(y)

my iPhone 4 battery seems to have worse life with IOS 6, not sure with iPad. As for neccasary Nope, it is actually a waste of time i would say, it is missing useful stuff, and added worthless stuff. It is weird that it is not offering IOS 6, how about try to update plugging into iTunes on a computer maybe? not sure, try updating to the 5.1.1, then see if after that it offers 6. but it is not needed :) hope this could help
