settings>mail, contacts, calendars,>fetch new data>then just pick how often you want it to get your email

If you mean to have instant update, you need push email, which will only work with Exchange, Yahoo or MobileMe.

Push e-mail is coming with the 3.0 update which is expected sometime this summer.
Hmmm...considering there's been no connection made between 3.0 and Gmail push, what is your source? It's not been proven it's coming with 3.0.

I have had 3.0 on my phone since Friday and have been getting push notifications since. I have the Mail app set up for my AOL account.

Hotmail has been running push for some time now. I updated to 3.0 aswel, and even though gmail hasn't began "pushing" their email yet, mine are coming throuh much quicker (maybe within 5 mins) than the 30 fetch i have set up. You know google will be pushing gmail soon, as when you set up google sync on your iPhone for contacts and calendars, you have the option to turn mail on. Leave it set to on, and as soon as the server is up, you will have push gmail.

The only problem with this is that you can currently only have 1 exchange sync on your device. Not good if you want personal and businesss emails pushed to your phone!

Wow, I really love this website. I also wondered about my email. Then poof! Here is the answer. I never knew what push data was. Now thanks to y'all I do. And my Cox home email and Yahoo email are automatically downloaded for me.

BTW, I guess that is what I get for not buying my iPhone at an AT&T or Apple store. I bought mine at Walmart, because I was saving my gift cards for something big, and I ended up only having to pay $100 extra for my 16GB. But the trade off was the store not even knowing how to set up my account properly, and I had to call AT&T later to get everything fixed. But I sure do love this phone!

I don't understand how an email provider could push through IMAP setup alone... don't you need exchange server information? Then again Yahoo doesn't, but they've been pushy since the beginning.

Also, I'm almost afraid to ask, but.... what on earth is that in your avatar, sstalk?

It might be Photoshopped, but it's still really sick.
Mods, make it go away...please.
Thanks!

The avatar is a poorly performed, surgically altered fingerprint. If you look at my bio you will see I am a fingerprint examiner. I did not mean for the avatar to be mistaken for anything inappropriate. It is disappearing now...

Thanks for the positive up10ad. But I have now figured out how to change it to something that is obvious.

I'm using GMAIL on 3.0 with PUSH. Fetch is set to "Manual", and my iPhone receives the e-mails automatically within a minute.
