I am attempting to update my jailbroken iPhone 4S from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1.

If I click the Restore button, I get error 1604.

If I shift-click on the Restore button (then use iPhone4,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore), I get error 1603.

I have:
  • Ensured I am running the latest version of iTunes
  • Restarted my PC (Windows 7 x64)
  • Tried to use a different USB port
  • Restarted the Apple Mobile Device service
  • Reset the iPhone sync history in iTunes
  • Booted into DFU mode before trying update
Also, sometimes I get error 21.

Any ideas?

This is copied and pasted from Apple for error 1604.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
  2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
  3. When prompted, click OK.
  4. Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
  5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
  6. Try to restore again.

I press-and-held the Home button whilst plugging the iPhone into the PC to boot into Recovery Mode.

I then got error 1611.

My hosts file is clean.

Try exiting iTunes, replugging in your iPhone so iTunes recognizes it, and restore.

For me it's a cat and mouse game to try and see what works.
I tried a third PC and it worked!

I am now restoring from my original PC - should be fine from here on.

Thank you! :)
