iTunes Repeatedly Asking for Password

If iTunes is open on my computer and I connect my phone to a power source in my house, iTunes asks me for my password. After I input my password, it transfers the songs or apps that I recently purchased on my phone to iTunes on my computer. Just to clarify, I am not being logged out of iTunes. It does remembers my password for iTunes and keeps me logged in. I can see my iTunes account name in the upper right corner in iTunes. It only asks for my password if I have made any recent purchases on my phone. If I cancel it, it will not transfer these purchases to iTunes on my computer.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is there any way to get it to save the password?

This is the pop-up I'm getting:

I'm guessing it's got something to do with wifi sync.

Maybe disable that feature to see if the behavior stops and re-enable, hoping it doesn't resume?

I tried logging out of iTunes on my phone and computer and then logging back in, but it didn't help. It still asks for my password every time I connect to iTunes via WiFi Sync or with a USB connection to the computer (but it only does it if I have made a recent App Store or iTunes purchase on my phone that is not yet in iTunes on the computer). It does not ask for the password if there are no purchases to transfer to the computer.

Come to think of it, I did have a wifi sync bug a little while ago.

I had iTunes set to autostart and then every so often I would find that the iPhone would reboot itself and hang on start up. I noticed later that iTunes was open and in the middle of a sync. At the next lock up I did some testing. Leaving iTunes running I forced a hard restart on the phone and found it returned to a hung boot. Then I closed iTunes and forced the restart again and everything was fine. Then I disabled wifi sync for about two days and the behavior ceased altogether. Then I re-enabled wifi sync and have not seen that bug since.

I know it's not the exactly the same bug that you're experiencing but I suspect that the wifi sync feature can get into a broken state.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I'm still having to input my password in iTunes on my computer every time I sync (after making a purchase on the phone) or it won't transfer the purchases to my computer.

Trying to understand.
You don't want to enter your password in when you plug in. You just want it to start the sync?

As I understand iTunes it require a password for any access of its system every 30 minutes. When you plug into your computer to sync it assumes it is your phone you are in possession of and plugging into your computer and saves data right to your computer without accessing iTunes system (I think). When you are doing the wifi sync it requires iTunes to access its system and there for requires your password. Has to be a security thing.
These are just my thoughts on why it's happening. You may just have to enter it every time.

Thanks. Correct. Maybe it is the way it's supposed to work. But it makes WiFi Sync pretty useless if you're in another room. Is this how yours works then? Test it for me if you would. Purchase a free app on your phone (one that you've never downloaded before) and then connect your phone to a power source (with your computer turned on and iTunes open). Does it prompt you for your password before transferring the app to your computer and does the sync stall indefinitely until you input the password?

So I went and plugged my phone into my comp so I could turn on wifi sync (I don't normally use it) then I downloaded an app then I plugged my phone into the outlet with iTunes opened and low and behold it didn't want to sync through wifi lol
I fiddled with it and no workie workie.
I am restarting my computer and see of that works. I will let ya know what happens.
Nothing have to do for wifi sync except for that one check box in iTunes right?
Good news is though I now have the Starwood hotel preferred guest app :$

It does it if I do a WiFi sync or USB wired sync. Does it ask you if you connect via USB? Make sure you have automatic downloads turned on in preferences.

I tunes has never asked me for my password for a wired sync. Ever. Only during an update.
That's odd. Your iTunes doesn't like you. I am assuming you have gone an looked through all your settings.

Yeah, I've checked the settings several times but I must be missing something.

I'm having a similar issue as you Europa, but I'm constantly being asked for my Apple password on my phone not the computer..I read somewhere that it meant there was an incomplete download, or possibly a paused download...im still trying o figure it out. Our issues could be related to the recent app updates like iMovie etc. those are almost a gig to download and its easy to just forget and turn off the computer and leave it hanging...just guessing at this point.

So, Mindi, I played with iTunes tonight (dirty) and could not figure out how to replicate your issue. It never asked me for my password. You don't sign out when you are done with iTunes do you?
I looked at every preference. Every setting. Every account setting and couldn't figure it out. I synced ota and with wire and nothing.
Sorry

Thanks for checking. No, I never sign out and it never automatically logs me out. I can see my account name in the upper right corner when I get this popup.

That's so weird. I am kinda glad I didn't get it to do t cause I don't want it to happen all the time lol
Have you thought about deleting and reinstalling iTunes? I am sure that is a pain to get all that music back and what not. Hmmmm

That will be a last-ditch effort, I guess. I might call an iTunes specialist this week and see what they say.

It's just so hard to find anything relevant though Google because there is slew of iTunes password problems. I haven't been able to find any hits with my exact issue yet.
