I made a custom .ispw and tried restoring my iPhone with it. I get an error (error 1600). I have 10.5.6 but I patched for the DFU problem.

I can restore using windows but I read somewhere that one shouldn't use QuickPawn if I wanna unlock my iPhone in the future.

Can I use the custom firmware created using PwnAge and use it with QuickPawn on windows? I'm running 2.2.1 on BB 20.30.03. I know I can't unlock it now but I want to keep the option in the future.

to my knowledge no you can't use the custom firmware as quickpwn will upgrade your baseband. not sure why the 10.5.6 patch doesn't work for you, but i would go pick up a powered usb hub for your mac and that should do the trick. if you really need to unlock it in the future don't take any chances.

Using QuickPWN won't prohibit you from being able to unlock in the future. It's the 2.2.1 FW update that may do that. Just use the 2.2 ISPW instead of the 2.2.1. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750 You can JB on your PC or use a USB hub to get around the DFU problem.

@PepeRB29, does it have to be a powered USB hub?

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I already stupidly updated to 2.2.1 from iTunes. I just want to Jailbreak it. For that I can use a PC now, right?

not completely sure, i have never run into this issue and needed one, i have read from others that have used a powered usb hub but whether they get that power from the computer itself or from an external source is not clear to me. either way a usb hub is needed to bypass the 10.5.6 DFU issue if the patch is not used.

yes you can use a pc, just download this version of quickpwn and you will be all ready to go.

quickpwn 2.2.5:
http://quickpwn2-2-1.googlecode.com/files/QuickPwn-225-2.zip

if you didn't update your iPhone on the pc you will be jailbreaking with, you will also need to download a copy of the 2.2.1 firmware.

3g 2.2.1 firmware:

Original iPhone 2.2.1 firmware:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...90127.Mmni6/iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw

hope that helps

Thanks a lot Pepe. I managed to do it.

Good thing, my phone had a network problem so Rogers agreed to swap it for a new one and I hope they give me one with the older Baseband! *fingers crossed*

Pepe, Very helpful information you provided. One more question, really your opinion. I just bought the iPhone with the 2.2.1. on it and I read that I would downgrade to 2.2 in order to jailbreak. Should I wait for a quickpwn 2.2.1. release or downgrade to 2.2? Are there disadvantages to downgrading? Are they offset by the advantages of JB?

You can JB 2.2.1. Downgrading to 2.2 wouldn't serve any purpose for you. Although you can downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.2, you can't downgrade the baseband update that came with it. The only reason people recommend not upgrading to 2.2.1 is if you plan on unlocking in the future. QuickPWN for 2.2.1 was released a long time ago, just a couple days after the FW version was released IIRC.

Thanks Europa and Pepe..one more question

I downloaded the 2.2.1 QuickPWN, and I think (not sure) backed up to iTunes. That is, I connet the iPhone an dit is recognized ad I dl music nd check for updates. I have not clicked "restore". So I ma not sure if the backup on iTunes is automatic.

I then run QPWN and cannot find the IPSW firmware when I browse. Do I have to dl the 2.2.1 firmware?

Thanks Pepe

I followed your instructions and dl'd the firmware. Wasn't sure where to put it on the PC so I created a folder and directed QuickPwn to it in Browse mode. It all worked! Thank you for another miracle!
