Hey guys. I'm thinking about jailbreaking my iPhone 3GS. I'm doing it in Windows and will be doing redsn0w. My question is how do you tell what baseline you're on? I understand that it will only work om 3.0, or am I wrong?
Thanks in advance.

I would use purplera1n.... works so much better and quicker. Until the 3.1 release all 3gs's will be on the same baseband. To check which you have I think you can tap general and then about

modem firmware. And the modem firmware will only prevent an unlock. I was beta testing 3.1 which does update your baseband, and downgraded (still have the updated baseband) and jailbroke with purplera1n. No issues.

Just finished doing a restore and was wondering if there is a place where I can get a guide on how to run either redsn0w or purplera1n. Tkanks.

so i am deciding if i want to jailbreak my iPhone 3gs, i had jailbroken my v1 twice and had no problems with the whole process. I am just wondering if i can jailbreak the phone and then just simply do a restore to any of Apples update softwares and not brick my phone?

You can restore when ever you like. The purplera1n JB is quick and simple.

Also its really unlikely (at the moment) that you will fully brick your iPhone, usually a restore will fix the problem

Hi All

I am going to jailbreak a 3gs running 3.0.1 today, but some posts are saying to point redsnow to the 3.0 software, and some are saying that I should point to 3.0.1

Does anyone know what is the best software to use?

Thanks

Thanks for that

The jailbreak seemed to work, but having issues with Cydia displaying host unreachable messages when trying to install apps from Cydia

Any ideas why this is happening?

I have tried to unplug the cable.. waited 10 minutes then unplugged.. tried to unplug right away.. left it unplugged for like 10 seconds then plugging it back in.. still redsn0w (v0.8) stays on the waiting for reboot.....

Are you using the 3gS 3.0 software?

Even though your firmware is 3.0.1, you have to get Redsnow to point to the 3.0 ipsw file - you can get this from iclarified

Worked for me earlier today on a 3gS on 3.0.1

Rednow should also be version 0.8

And only install Cydia, don't put Icy on (make sure it's unticked)

Sorry mate - out of ideas

I jailbroke one today and it worked fine just by following the redsnow instructions

Load the ipsw hit next, let it load the kernels etc then unplug the phone when it tells you to, turn it off and wait 5 for seconds after it has shut down, then hold the home key and plug the usb back in and only release the home key once the Apple logo disappears and the iTunes device comes up on the screen then let it do its thing

Thats all I did and it worked for me
