That'll be a nice beast to play with, nice a fast too especially with 16gb of RAM. Waiting till I complete my house move before buying my next big Apple purchase.

I absolutely love my MacBook Pro retina. I moved from a Mac Pro and it's been pretty seamless. My only issue has been finding a way to keep my cats off of it. It's become a super-expensive cat bed, in addition to being a computing beast.

My non-Retina MBP feels ancient compared to these new ones. Looking forward to upgrading in the near future.

To be honest, I mostly use mine in clamshell mode. My ancient ACD 30" is my primary monitor.

I'm really looking forward to getting a desktop Mac. I'm refusing to look at prices until I've moved house, then I'll know how much I need to keep saving for!

I actually cancelled the order. I'm thinking about downgrading to a 13". It'll be a work machine mostly, which will be with external monitors anyway, so screen size is not a big deal most of the time. I'll have to take it home with me pretty much every day, so 13" will be nicer to carry around. But the problem is the 13" refurbs don't have a 16GB RAM option... damn non-replaceable memory...

ended up sizing-down to a 13" for $1159. 8GB RAM should be fine for a few years, and same 256GB SSD. Should get it at work tomorrow.

That will be a very nice computer. I don't use MacBooks anymore, but I always greatly preferred 13" over 15" when I did.

If you're lucky it will ship with Mavericks.

Yosemite is pretty awesome. I think he meant you should to hope to avoid it altogether since there is a WiFi bug that affects some users on Yosemite. My iMac has been unaffected by it. I'm sure it will be fixed soon and I wouldn't hesitate getting a new MBP with Yosemite right now if I wanted one. Software issuers can be fixed. No need to avoid the hardware or assume that it won't be fixed.
