Hey folks... I noticed that after I upgraded to 8.1 that a blue band will pulsate in the notification area IF you have an app using location in background. Is there any setting to disable this? I poked around but didn't see anything. Thanks.

Can you take a screenshot of this blue band? I have location service running in background but I pull down notification center and I don't see that.

I think this is what he's talking about. I noticed my phone doing this last week, and I'm still on iOS 8.0.2.

I heard on a podcast a suggestion that it's Apple's app shaming, i.e. part of an effort to let you know which apps could be (over) using you battery as well as a privacy notification.
YMMV

I kind of like the idea. Knowing which app/apps are using location services could be quite helpful.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

I haven't seen it yet either but could make use of it if it comes up.

It is momentary but when you close the app it disappears. I guess it is a good feature to keep you on the alert for apps draining the battery.

I haven't seen that on my iPhone 5. But I keep most apps that use location turned off. I only turn maps on if I need to use maps. Facebook only when we go out to eat and I post our location. I leave Weather apps and Camera apps on. It must be an iP 6/6+ thing. Neither my 5 nor my Wife's 5c has seen it.

I allowed location services and that's set in settings for "while using the app". Maybe they are only seeing it when the app is telling them how to get somewhere?
I'm irritated that more Apps don't have that option. Most are "Always" or "Never." I usually opt for Never in that case.

Napoleon has it right. I just tried setting a destination in Google Maps and starting the navigation and when I send the app to the background the blue bar shows up and stays on.
