Can anyone let me know why text message delivery reports are not available in iPhone? Only delivery reports for iMessage are available...That sucks.... Is their any application through which we can get delivery status of the messages?

Not SMS. It doesn't support it.

It's either iMessage or an app/service similar to it (like WhatsApp messenger).

Thanks Tinman.... But not everyone using Whatsapp Messenger.... Anyhow its bad on the part of Apple that they don't consider delivery reports important.

Apple does not control over SMS.

SMS is controlled by your mobile carrier. There is no delivery report standard but some carriers offer it, using different methods to get it (usually you prepend a code before a phone number). On phones that a carrier gets to customize, they have in the past added the appropriate code in the background so the user just saw the notification and didn't really have to do anything. Carriers cannot customize iPhones like that.

On UK Orange, for instance, if you prepend #0 before number when sending the text it will trigger a delivery report.

There is also a jailbreak app out that allows it without having to prepend or do anything special. But only works if your carrier supports it. AT&T in the USA does not. T-Mobile does.
