I have terrible signal strength everywhere in my house unless the iPhone is in the charger.

I have tried several locations. Maybe it goes into a power-save mode if only on the battery? It's fully charged.

Anyone else have this?

I also get very poor reception at my house but I have not tried it while charging. I will try that and let you know how it works out.

Not trying to sound funny here, but do you by chance
live in a "metal" building?

Electromagnetic waves can sometimes be blocked
by metal structures.

The connection via your battery charger may provide
all that's needed for the signal to leak around a metal structure.

Just a guess.
