170 damn dollars! Why! Maybe somebody here can tell me? I know there is an activation fee and with taxes and all that it came to $62.99. Then there is this $107.98 (Total Monthly Service Charges).

Can someone clear this up for me, I don't get it. This is what it shows on my bill:

The first bill can be a little overwhelming to fully understand.

Your next bill should be nearly half. (Or even less... unless you
are the ultimate motor-mouth, and Text Guruuuuue)

After my third bill, it seems to have mellowed out to 67.70
with roll-over minutes accumulating.

I dunno if this helps or not, but with my other phone with AT&T that I previously had my bill was grossly overcharged because of the data plan, they charge you for pretty much everything you do on the internet after you use all the data up, if you don't have the unlimited data plan.

The bill is perfectly normal. Calling AT&T is a waste of time--leave that for people with real issues.

You pay your AT&T bill, like most every other cellphone bill, in advance.

But you didn't pay anything in advance when you got your iPhone. So your first bill includes the prorated charges (8/14/07 to 9/7/07) of $16 for data and $31.99 for voice (plus taxes).

The $47.99 (plus taxes) pro-rated charges and the activation fee won't be there next month. Take them off and you have your normal monthly charge.

Move along folks, nothing to see here...
