Maybe it's just the apps I was using, but I actually bogged it down to a crawl. Actually locked it up using skyfire.
Anyone else having issues?

Install and run Geek Bench and know for sure how your device is running. Skyfire is no way to test you ipad.

Sounds like SkyFire was accessing all of its RAM?
Possibly. It might not be optimized for the iPad. The app runs fine on my phone (cough*porn browser), just not very well on the iPad.

You could ditch SkyFire and just download the videos. There are lots of download manager apps in the App Store.

So how much ram does the air supposedly have ? I did a check with my Free Memory app, and it's over 512, but apparently not by much. With just that app open and all radios off, the most free I had was 520mb. I can free up more than 630 on my iPhone.

Can we keep this family friendly, as advertised?
Really?

Anyway, my first ipad air was consistently slower running speed test than my iPhone5. Apple tried to trouble shoot and escalated the problem to developers, but I didn't want to get stuck with a defective unit so I exchanged it before the 30 day return.

The new one is better, but my iPhone5 is still usually a tad faster.
