Just because it has no password doesn't mean its public.

If the bank accidentally left $10 on the counter do you think you are free to take it? That is stealing. Someone else is paying for that wifi and is dumb enough not to encrypt it so you can pick it up... but it doesn't belong to you, so even though you can access it, it is still stealing. I hope no one here helps you out, sorry. You can call me any name you want... it won't change the facts.

I'm friendly with all my neighbors, and after a short discussion, one of them let me get his password for his wifi network.

I highly suggest you do this! At least let the neighbors know you're hijacking their bandwidth.

As for an answer, I doubt anyone on this forum will help. We tend to take piracy of all kinds seriously.

Thank you for a KIND answer. We are very close friends with our neighbors. My friend down the street from me. His dads the city attorney, and he says it's totally legal. It's open!

Unless your neighbor specifically gives you permission to use his wifi access point, it's stealing.

I want his phone number so I can confirm. ;)

And don't send me PMs saying people are rude to you in this thread. You're advocating stealing.

I went over to his house and asked him. He said since we were good neighbors, he would allow it. But no bad stuff. I do have to mow his lawn every 2 weeks. I got his permission. And I mentioned My problem. He said he didn't know. So could someone now help me?

Just because someone else is doing something illegal and getting away with it, does not make it legal.

I'm also not saying I've never downloaded something for free using filesharing, but I certainly wouldn't talk about it here, and I suggest you don't either. While I tend to always be as courteous as possible, other members won't be, and they'll be totally justified. This forum has a strict no pirating policy.

I hate to say this my friend, but I think a calibration of your moral barometer is in order. At the very least, if you choose to stay here, just don't talk about pirating ANYTHING. A good general rule is if you didn't pay for it, it's stolen.

With all that out of the way, enjoy your stay here on eic. It really is a great resource of LEGAL Apple info, and most of the members will go to great lengths to help you out....just keep it legal! ;)
