Any of you guys use netbooks? Which ones do you like? I'm going to pick one up at Best Buy today. I saw hundreds of people at Defcom with netbooks and only a few laptops. I didn't realize just how popular they are until then. Most of them were running Ubuntu on them and that's my plan. I still haven't decided if I want to dual boot Windows on it or just run Ubuntu. My only reason to keep Windows on it would be for tethering, it works on Ubuntu, but I've heard some people have had connection problems. IDK, they probably just didn't set it up right. Anyway, the quick USB mode for Windows would be nice.

I was also planning on buying one. But I think I'm going to wait, there are very strong rumors about an Apple Tablet supposedly launching in November.

as an iPhone user, i just don't see the need. i do everything i need to do on my phone apart from heavy computing... which a netbook wouldn't be able to handle anyway.

Haha! I know! But it's pretty close to Apple's annual September announcements and plus the rumors have never been this strong. I think I'll wait... again!

There's only 2 netbooks that I know of that run Ubuntu Netbook Remix out of the box-- the Dell 10v and the Starling from System 76.

I have the Starling and it is great. $359 includes 6 cell battery and the systems are built to order. I love mine.
I ended up getting an Asus Eee PC 1005 H. It came with Windows XP. I downloaded the Ubuntu Netbook Remix and saved the ISO to a flash drive after verifying the Md5Sum and then partitioned the HD and installed Ubuntu 9.04 so I could dual boot with Windows. It installed fine, but there are known WiFi internet connection problems with that remix and I couldn't even get LAN working with Ubuntu. Both worked fine when using XP. I wasn't happy with how loud it was, I expected the fans to be loud, but the hard drive was way too loud for me to get used to. I returned it later that day. I'm just going to stick with my 12 inch Sony Vaio for Ubuntu.

Here's the remix compatibility list, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks

That Dell running Mac Os X looks pretty cool.

Yeah, if I did get a netbook, I'd definitely get one with a solid state drive.

The keyboard felt loose as well. The build quality is pretty bad. Overall, it was a huge disappointment. I'm going to steer clear of netbooks all together and wait for the Apple Tablet.

What do you guys/gals use a netbooks for? I see most users using it for surfing the net. Can't that just be done on the iPhone?

that's exactly what i'm saying.

the only other things i could imagine people needing them for is for word/excel work on the go, or intense field blogging.
