Still 5.0.1, but apparently solves SIM and "No Service" issues that some 4S users have...with an extra Easter egg. I found the story at:
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/15/2638974/apple-releases-new-build-of-ios-5-0-1-for-iphone-4s

Well-known iOS hacker MuscleNerd recently tweeted an unusual observation about the update: it's the first official 4S firmware with an accessible encryption key for the main file system, meaning you can browse the file system from a PC unimpeded. Lots of folks are pointing out that this means users will be able to get at Siri's files without committing piracy, and that could lead to a field day for Siri hacks. There's no official word from Apple at this point on exactly what's changed.

You may need to connect your device to iTunes and update that way.

I'm still on the older version and I can't update. Nothing in OTA and nothing in iTunes.

Bummer too because I just started having the no service problem about 3 days ago.

One way to ensure you get the new version of iOS 5.0.1 - restore the device. Delete iOS 5.0.1 from your computer and hit restore. iTunes will automatically download the latest iOS and install said firmware on your device :)

IMO, the only ones who should go to the trouble of restoring to get 5.0.1 version 2 are those who are experiencing SIM card errors.

Or anyone who thinks this new update could help with a jailbreak =P

Well, in 4.5 hours I haven't seen a "searching" message on my phone while I was sending texts or pictures. So I think it helped.

Yeah, that's what I meant by SIM errors.

Oh, i didn't know it was a sim error that was causing it. Actually, i didn't even know there was a software problem till I saw this post. i just thought ATT was having issues here. I was kinda hoping they were in the process of a 3G install. :p I think there will be 9G or data will be beamed into our heads before we see 3G.
