Is the iSight camera the front camera?

Did the front and rear cameras get upgraded on the new iPad or just the rear?

Apples website does not call it front and back, just iSight.

From Apple's specs page:

  • 5-megapixel iSight camera
  • Autofocus
  • Tap to focus
  • Face detection in still images
  • Video recording, HD (1080p) up to 30 frames per second with audio
  • Video stabilization
  • FaceTime camera with VGA-quality photos and video at up to 30 frames per second
  • Photo and video geotagging
The bolded part is referring to the front-facing camera. It has remained unchanged at VGA resolution for photos and video (640 x 480 or about 0.3 megapixels).

Well to me, iSight would be the front facing camera and the rear camera would be the regular camera. Thanks for the clarification.

They can't even get the current VGA camera going properly over 3G with Facetime. I don't think they'll be bumping the rez of the front camera any time soon.

They've used the same front-facing camera in the iPhones and iPads for two years now without upgrading them, so that's one reason they aren't mentioning the resolution. It's not something they can brag about.
