Not playing the songs that weren't on my nano

I just got an ipod touch 16gb for christmas. I previously had a iPod nano. For my new iPod touch I added about thirty percent more songs than I had on my nano. For some reason it is only playing the songs that I already had checked for my nano. When I try to play a song that wasn't on my nano, it plays about 5 seconds of silence, and then advances to the next song. It plays all of the songs I had on my nano perfectly though. Has anyone else had this problem, or know how to solve it?

Can we assume you have checked all the new songs to be synced with your touch?
