It took 2 versions of the iPhone to get C&P, 3 versions to get MMS so I see flash in about 3 more yrs

Not gonna happen. Not with the app store booming like it is.

I can totally live without flash. I'd rather have true multitasking. I'm jailbroken right now using backgrounder but it'd be nice to not have to jailbreak and also have a task manager like S60 phones do.

I'm not sure I want flash on the iPhone. I used to scream for it but every phone I've had that supports flash it has actually detracted from the web browsing experience. It might be ok on the 3gs having 256 mb RAM and the better processor. The Nokia N900 will have full adobe flash and firefox browser. I'll probably buy and try that if they get a version compatible with 850/1900 3g

+1 regarding multitasking. That's the next big upgrade we need.

I need nothing else. Now that I have MMS, I can outrun a horse, lift 10,000 pounds, and I've achieved omniscience.

On second thought, tethering would be nice.

Yep, it's really easy to enable tethering on 3.0 and 3.0.1.
I doubt they'll ever allow flash. Next up, Video Chat and Backgrounding/Multi-tasking.

Re: Tethering...what if I'm on 3.1? Is there a way? I've read of people doing so, but losing Visual VM. Is that still the case? Also, is this only possible if I jailbrake? I'd prefer not to...

Yep no go for 3.1 though as far as I know. I'm staying on 3.0.1 I see no real reason to update to 3.1
I agree, I see no real reason either. Just irrational numbers and reasons ;)

3.0.1 with tethering, MMS, and infinite unlockability FTW!

The only thing I like about 3.1 is the ability to organize apps from iTunes and the ability to buy ring tones right from your iPhone. Even though it costs more (I was making them for free before) the convenience is awesome.

I'd prefer Flash over background processes. I'm stock right now and really don't miss backgrounder all that much with the speed of the 3GS. I just flip in and out of programs so fast that it feels like they're all open! The only thing I really need it for is music/radio apps and IRC but I'd rather have Flash.

iPhone is a no go for me without backgrounder. I am a pandora junkie and Siriusxm junkie. Without the ability to run those or beejive in the background I'd probably be back to using the Bold exclusively. Perfectly happy now on 3.0.1 jailbroken.
