    Dear Members,
My Personal Hotspot has disappeared from my SETTINGS when i came back to Nigeria from Egypt. What may be wrong? I reset the phone to default to no avail. Can this be attributed to network?

    Alkali,

I had that happen a few days ago. I found ANOTHER instance of the Personal Hotspot off/on control in "Network" under settings. When I turned it on there, the control came back to its normal place also. Look in Settings<>General<>Network. My iPhone is on Verizon.

I have just came back from Egypt and it works perfectly normal there or can this be due to network here in Nigeria? May be they do not allow it.

Yes, it depends on network permission. If it is not available even under settings>general>network that maybe the case.

I doubt very much that moving to another network (country) would change the firmware of the phone "on the fly." I could be wrong, but that doesn't sound right to me. Look where we suggested and PLEASE tell us what you find. That would be instructive for us all. Thanks,

    Brian

I think i have. Settings>Personal Hotspot or Network Then personal Hotspot but it is not there! but i think i have an idea of what may have happened. I was in Egypt and was using Vodapone as the carrier but in Nigeria there was no carrier that uses iPhone for there services. The best we can do here is import these phones on personal basis or have them jail broken.

I agree with bingo. Sometimes the personal hotspot is not appearing in the main settings menu, even if the tethering is allowed, then you can find it under network settings. But this will not be available if the tethering is not allowed by the operator, for sure, cos the settings come from the operator.

I can't find out how to turn on personal hotspot. I know you are meant to go to network but it's not there. I have pictures to show you.

Just tried a hard reset then and it's still the same. Would it make a difference that I am in Australia?

It may. Since it is using data from your carrier. Very good point.

It did use to work before though. I got iOS 5 early because my friend is a developer and it worked fine but I had to restore my phone and now the setting isn't there.

Probably your carrier has disabled this feature. I had the same problem after switching carriers. After numerous calls to both Apple and the carrier, I got both in a conference call and the carrier admitted they had disabled it. They restored it after my next billing date.
Don't let the carrier fob you off. Apple has no control over tethering.
    Good luck.

How do I reset my networks? This is my first Apple, and I'm still learning my way around.

BTW, I updated to iOS6 this weekend and lost my personal hotspot.

    Thank you,

    Leesha

I tried the network reset, but to no avail. I called AT&T. Settings > Cellular > Turn on Personal Hotspot.

It now appears on the settings page.

    Thank you,

    Leesha
