This story was brought to my attention by fellow eiC member @Ledsteplin. The life of a 23-year-old man attempting on his own to recover his stolen iPhone ended tragically when he was shot to death by the alleged perpetrator. This took place near Fairfield, Alabama—a suburb of Birmingham.

This event highlights the dangers of attempting smartphone recovery without police assistance. The article ends with a piece of advice given by Fairfield Police Chief Leon Davis, "Notify police and let them handle the recovering."

To that, I say, "Easier said that done." Smartphone recovery isn't exactly a high-priority task for police. It all boils down to which you value more—your smartphone, of your life.
