They may offer some value to new members, being able to see who has been around a while.
I know that quantity does not expressly imply quality, but at-a-glance info seems usefull to me as opposed to have to click on user....
I think they definitely offer more value than, 'likes' after all someone can help/assist a new or current member with a problem or simply push them in the right direction and not receive a like for it, although that member will more than likely return in future for more assistance. I've helped loads of people in the past and not been liked for it (not that I'm complaining). It's an un-fair rating, IMHO.
Post count can mean so many different things, both positive and negative.
