I heard somewhere that the markup on printer ink is somewhere over 100,000%. Nice, hey?

That's why businessses use laser printers. Dry doesn't expire for a long time. Costs including fuser can be as low as under 2¢/page for black. Last I heard ink starts around 30¢/page. Colour costs 4x or more.

It's why they give away ink jets. In many comparisons a laser printer would have paid for itself by the time you've used up the first pack of toner.

How is the HP? I have a wireless printer, but not the iPad/iPhone compatible one so I was thinking about getting one that was.

Unless you do a lot of photo printing, check out the Kodak printers. $10 for black and $20 for color. Buy a combo pack and save a whopping dollar, as they are $29

My dad switched to a laser printer because he got tired of the high cost of ink.

I have a Canon and my ink replacements are about $65. I don't print too much, so I only have to replace them a couple times a year.

I had a Kodak ESP7. Nice output, when it worked. I had to have two or three new printer heads sent out to me by Kodak. I now have an HP Photosmart All-In-One Premium and I love it.

I've seen colour laser for as cheap as $120. The other thing about ink jet cartridges is that even though you're not printing, the ink dries and thereforee has a short shelf life once opened.

I do understand that the print quality on colour is better with ink? I liked wax laser/phaser for this reason but I think Epson stopped making that line.

I guess next time around when the ink is low I check laser printers .
Nowa days really printers should be hardly used afterall transfer of documents is digital.
My son prefers to do his presentations on slides. But we do print here and there for crafts and I also do a few projects for school. I need receipts reimbursments. And to print my tax documents since they are delieverd digital.
Yeah tax time again

If I had to buy one today doing a quick check.

This 16ppm 1200x1200 dpi, small foot print laser is on sale for $39
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=34_451_453&item_id=040900

The toner costs are $74 for 1500 pages capacity that typically lasts about 3 years in my home. Pretty sure it's more a matter of self life versus usage for me too.

Cheapest colour unit I'm seeing is at $129
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=34_451_455&item_id=045439

The colour toners are $87 each x 3 and the black is $94. Again expected usage is 3 yrs.

Here's were I debate spending the added $90 + $261 ($87x3) for having colour in the house. Currently still have black only print at home but I print colour at the office about 3-4 times a year.

Thank's! Now I am mad I did not ask first LOL. Since I just got the new printer the other day. Probably when we move again I hope I get a bigger office space again and then I will have a massive print station

Dream on. I remember the predictions of the "paperless office." Yeah, right. People love hard copies.
