My App Store is indicating that I have 4 updates pending. I've deleted those apps and I'm still getting the number 4 over my App Store. How do I get rid of it?

Have you tried to reboot your phone and or close the app store from your app switcher?

I was having that sort problem on my old 5s. An upgrading app would hang and I'd have trouble getting it to complete the update or restart. All seemed to get there eventually but I know some never recovered and I was able to delete them. In a few cases, the deleted app(s) were not fully deleted as you can see like in the image below, an unidentifiable missing app. I've yet to find those missing app(s) nor have I missed ones that I used regularly since I remembered their names and was able to fully/successfully reinstall them.
    YMMV

Tap to update them. Afterwards, if they're on the screen, delete them.

I have no update option on the screen and the apps are not there because I deleted them first

Could the apps possibly still be in your iTunes if you backup and restore through there? I am just throwing out ideas. Once recently I had an issue where I restored and my apps would not sync back fully. That's not your problem, but it was very annoying and confusing to fix.

Finally solved the problem: another app called for an update and I chose "update all". This cleared the number from my App Store icon
