This is the one thing that I have been wanting since I got the iPhone last summer.

I might even beta test when apps start being updated.

I'm wondering if any of these pushy apps will hit the appstore before they release 3.0.... seeing as how 3.0 is so backwards-compatible, maybe 2.2.1-compatible apps could be released with 3.0 features?

Question about Push. Do you get an audible alert with it or just a number on the icon? Or does anyone really know yet how it goes?

It's when a server pushes a notification to you like having an audio, text or visual alert instantly letting you know that there's an update, e-mail, txt etc waiting to be read or actioned.

It won't just wait until the next time you open the app etc, it'll be sent along to you as soon as it's there or avaliable. ;)

It was shown during the 3.0 OS Demo. It showed off the number notification, audio notifications & pop-up notifications :laugh2:

I'm pretty sure Apple said that no apps creating using the 3.0 APIs will be able to hit the appstore until 3.0 is released. Its strictly beta testing now.

If you have MobileMe, push works nearly instantly while syncing Contacts and iCal.

If future apps work this well, it will indeed be an incredible feature in 3.0. Everything will be virtually on line without sucking battery life in the background.
