In anticipatation of potential jailbreak on ios10.1.1 can I downgrade from 10.2 using the <shift>update button and selecting the older 10.1.1 (assuming apple is still signing it). If so will this keep all my apps and data?

Here’s the info on How To Downgrade iOS 10.2 On Your iPhone Or iPad.

When Apple stops signing the previous iOS version, one or more tech news outlets usually break the news. So far, I have not seen that news reported anywhere; therefore, I assume that Apple is still signing iOS 10.1.1 (the article I linked to was published two days ago and it discusses signing of prior iOS versions at greater length).

I don’t think downgrading an iOS version will erase any apps or data, but I’m not the foremost authority on this subject, so if you’d like, you should wait for another person to answer that question for you.

Thanks for the link.
It looks like I have to restore to 10.1.1 then restore from backup. But it has to be a backup from 10.1.1, can't use backup from 10.2.
I was hoping I could use the <shift> update button to actually downgrade to 10.1.1 and keep everything, but that might be do dangerous.

Don't wait for the media to announce it. If you want to downgrade, do so now. It's possible that Apple could stop signing iOS 10.1.1 tomorrow - who knows? Restore as new and do the work necessary to bring your iPhone back up to speed as far as putting all your information back in. Then go here (for Windows users) or here (for Mac users) to save your SHSH2 blobs for 10.1.1 for possible future downgrade use.

Check www.ipsw.me for signed (and unsigned) iOS versions.

I've been jailbreaking ever since the original iPhone, and I have a healthy dose of proactiveness about this subject.

WOW, I was lucky. I took Nap's advice and downgraded Monday to 10.1.1. Yesterday I saved my SHSH2. It must have been just before Apple stopped sighing. That was close.

Not sure about #2. Rushed decisions can have catastrophic effects. Take it from me. :)
Dude, you're not a jailbreaker. Leave that to people who have experience. Please don't muddy up the thread with statements that might be misconstrued by jailbreakers looking for help. Thanks. :)

I just say this because it's a very confusing time for jailbreakers right now and precise, accurate, information and advice are needed.

Chillin' on 10.1.1 with my SHSH blobs backed up and patiently waiting for the jb with Chandler Riggs and all the other cool jailbreak people. Luca rocks.

Ok... I have one question in my mind. Now that am on 10.1.1, Can I follow the steps which you have mentioned even after Apple has no longer signed 10.1.1 ?

Are the steps only applicable for downgrading 10.2 to 10.1.1 ? Or can we downgrade from any iOS version to any previous iOS version ? Also, in the future, can I downgrade from iOS 10.1.1 to iOS 9.X.X ?

As for the SHSH2 blobs? No.

You will only be able to upgrade to 10.1.1 as far as I can tell.
