what is the typical speed when you have full bars on 3g while surfing the internet? what i mean is like 512kbps, 1 mb speed and also how long does it usually take to load pages like myspace and etc, because on my cousins htc touch pro for sprint no joke websites were loading within 10 seconds or less and the websites i was trying to go on were myspace and stuff

It varies by location. For example I'm sitting in a hospital and my download connection is: 168kbps (0.1712mbps)
My upload speed is: 74kbps (0.076mbps). This is on a 3G network. Somedays it fast and some days it's slow. But then again I'm inside a building with slot of interference)

While I'm struggling with this number personally, I just went to 2Wire.com with my iPhone and ran their bandwidth test. I have a 3G iPhone and I was only connected via 3G (wifi was disabled). I ran the speed test and it came back with 1.39Mbps. This was indoors with 5 bars showing in the ATT 3G network.

All depends on the tower you're connected to. Signal strength has nothing to do with speed. I can be in the same town, but near different towers and get different speed results regardless of strength.

I ran 2wire.com inside my office with both Edge and 3G...

Edge = 197.40kbps
3G = 956.30kbps

Nice difference...:eek:

EDGE: 10kb/s
3G: 150kb/s
Wifi: 300~kb/s (the max internet speed at home is 700-800kb/s, but the iPhone's Wifi thing is slow).

The 3G speeds that I got was in Houston, TX. Where I live, I don't have EDGE, so I was EXTREMELY surprised that 3G was THAT fast.

Ya, the speed from 3G is going to vary from place to place. There are a couple lawsuits going around regarding Apple suggesting the iPhone 3G was faster than it was.We will see how those pan out.

I'm satisfied with the 3G I get here in Tulsa, its pretty fast in most locations around 80-90kb/s.

If I were getting about the same speed EDGE as 3G then I'd definitely disable 3G to save battery. lol

I just sold my 2G and now have the 3G and I think it rocks. It is way faster than the 2G. Now, it is perfect for my Portland carpet cleaning businesss, because I talk and be on the net at the same time! :-D Go Apple

i don't think that 2wire.com is that accurate as i've re-tested about 6x now and its settled at 6000.00Mbps... so i think my test is a bit naff
