I downloaded redsn0w v.8, also downloaded the 3.0 firmware. I went ahead with the installation, followed all the instructions. The program showed me "Done!" with no additional steps, but I don't see Cydia installed..

What did I do wrong?

Let me clarify the steps I took.

  1. Downloaded redsn0w v .8 and extracted into a folder on my desktop
  2. Download 3.0 firmware and also put into that same folder.
  3. Connected my iPhone with iTunes open
  4. Ran redsn0w
  5. followed onscreen instructions which included powering down, disconnecting cord, reconnecting cord while holding HOME button until the Apple sign was gone
  6. Waited a bit, then was given the "Done!" message.
  7. Checked my phone saw no Cydia app
  8. Tried to reboot myself, still no Cydia

Did you check the button for Icy and Cydia, just one, or neither (not sure if it would let you check neither)?

Is Icy there? If so, you can use it instead of Cydia.

Otherwise, you'll going to have to restore and rejailbreak.

I just checked Cydia. I have tried to restore back to 3.0.1 and re-jailbreaking. Now when I power down, then hold HOME and plug it back in, I redsn0w is crashing everytime. I also tried it on two different computers both running vista..

I have tried v0.7.2 and also v.8

I tried these too files:
iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore
iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore

The version I have on my phone is 3.0.1 7A400. I loaded the same file onto my phone and then tried to use redsn0w but it doesn't recognize the file, but it will recognize 7A341. When it goes to reboot the program crashes...

can someone please point me in the right direction I have been struggling with this for hours

I figured it out for anyone in the future that is reading this thread with the same issue. The problem was that I needed to use this ISPW file

iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore

Glad you got it figured out. You have to be careful and choose the 3.0 ISPW file that matches the model phone you have.

Thats not really correct, and that's exactly why I was having problems. The ISPW I had was 3.0.1 7A400, but apparently when you try to JB a 3.0.1 phone you still need to use the 3.0 7A341 File. Also make sure if you have a 3G phone the beginning says:

iPhone1,2

NOT

iPhone2,1 (this is for 3Gs)
