So I registered my iPhone 5's UDID and after installing iOS 7, I'm getting the error message that it's unable to activate as it's not currently registered. Is anyone else having the same issues or am I the only one?

You must do this:
- Downgrade back to 6.1.4 using DFU mode (yes, it works, don't worry)
- Restore your backup so you're back to square one.
- Hold Option (Or Shift if using Windows) and press "Update", NOT RESTORE, and select the ISPW.
- It will install successfuly while bypassing the activation screen entirely.

Enjoy.

^Leo has the process down. This is exactly what my dev friend said to do.

Also, the activation servers went down tonight, but my buddy said his just went through. He's all updated, and says iOS7 is SICK.

Yes, that trick should work for most people, but I wonder for how long.

So, just to be clear, I have an iPhone 5 on 6.1.4, I can simply shift+click + "Update" to iOS 7. or do I need to restore to a firmware I am already running?

You can update from whatever you're on now (as long as you aren't jailbroken), or just restore to iOS 6.1.4 to be safe.
