When composing e-mails using the stock iOS e-mail app, oftentimes outdated e-mail addresses show up as suggestions as you begin typing the recipient's e-mail address in the "To:" field. Unfortunately, these outdated e-mail addresses are sometimes listed near the top of the results and are somewhat easy to tap on by mistake, and one might subsequently end up sending the e-mail to an outdated or no-longer-checked e-mail address.

It used to be easy enough to get rid of these outdated e-mail addresses by following these steps:

Unfortunately, the "Remove From Recents" in step six (see screenshot below) of that tutorial is MIA now. What happened to it, and is there an alternative method?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer.

Apparently, this issue has been resolved in iOS 9.1. From Apple's official release notes: "Fixes an issue that prevented users from removing recent contacts from new mail or messages".
