I have a friend who needs their device restored. He is currently on firmware version 1.1.4 (with the software upgrade). He isn't on 3.0 because he doesn't want to pay the money for it. My question is this: if I restore his phone for him, will I have to update it to 3.0 or can I just restore it to 1.1.4? Any help is appreciated. Thx in advance.:)

It's free for iPhones and $10 for iPods. I recommend updating it to 3.0 since you run into app compatibility problems if you stay on the old FW. Is it unlocked? You can download it in iTunes or from here, http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750 If you download from the link you'll need to shift+restore (option+restore on Mac)and then locate the file.

For the iPhone, the update is free, for an iPod touch the software is $10. When using a mac hit option+restore on Mac.

I'm asking if doing the option+restore thing will give me the firmware free or if I still will have to pay $10.

For the iPhone updates are free. For the ipod touch it cost $10. What device are you trying to restore iPone or Ipod?
