My friend has an 8GB iPhone with a cracked screen, that no longer works. She's selling it for $49.50 + .50 tax, and I get the original box, manuals, cables, and headphones.

Is it a good deal?

EDIT: I'm planning to sell it on eBay.

Wouldn't be for me. The screen alone will cost $250 to repair and you say it no longer works so how much is it going to cost to fix the rest? Can't imagine why you would want this. You can get a new 3G for $199.

PS: What's with the $.50 tax.:laugh2:

What condition are the accessories in? If they're in good shape and you need an extra set, it could be worth it. I think Apple sold a spare dock, cable, and power adapter kit for $49 alone. And new headphones are $19, I think. But it doesn't sound like the broken iPhone will be of any use unless you just want to experiment with it...

My advice is don't buy it. Use that $50 to buy an 8GB iPhone 3G. Save up the other $150 to buy the iPhone 3G. It would cost more to fix the phone than get a new one. =/
So definitely go with getting a 3G because it will leave you disappointed with regrets.

Can't you trade it in at freeiPhoneswap.com or is that only for working phones?

freeiPhoneswap.com doesn't look legit to me AT ALL. It's your phone and life though, but I highly recommend you not try that.

The owner was recently interviewed on Today in iPhone podcast, sounded perfectly legit the way he talked. What they do is either 1) resell the phone if it's in great condition, or 2) part it out and sell it to refurbishers and the like, both of which cover their costs for giving you the $150-350

Well, from my experience in other threads, people have talked about how sketchy it is. You can never really know with these things =/

I would pass. Put that $50 towards one that is in working condition. Way too much trouble to fix it yourself and paying for the repair is outrageous.

The V1 is not easy to work on. Unless you really know what you are doing, you may end up throwing money down to drain.

lmao totally! I would get it, and as you said, sell it on Gbay lol. I saw one go for 172.00 with a cracked screen. So most likely you would proffit off it for selling it.

I'm not getting it because she randomly decided to raise it to 80 dollars when I said I'd take it for $49.50 + tax.

She must have been on ebay
-or has a bill to pay
-or been reading EiC
-or just realized that she payed a lot for it and cant let it go for that much of a loss:p

That sucks man :(
