IIRC, Shadows was the first novel authorized by Lucas.
It would also be great to get some Han Solo backstory
Given that they're calling it "Episode VII", I don't expect to see much backstory. I imagine it'll take place some time after Return of the Jedi. Hopefully Mark Hammil, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher will have at least cameo appearances. If it's a similar amount of time as between Episodes III and IV, I don't see how they can do it without at least Mark Hammil, given that Luke is the only one who can rebuild the Jedi.

I'd like to see Luke and the others play a similar role in VII, VIII, IX as Yoda and Obi-Wan had in IV, V, VI - not the main characters, but mentors for new Jedi or New Republic Leadership.

I'd rather have no Harrison if it means seeing Han's death.....
Let's be realistic. Death is inevitable, unless you're a Jedi and can keep your midichlorians intact once your crude matter has given up the ghost.

I would love to see the original Solo one more time. It would suit his character perfectly to die with a decent blaster at his side.

Nope, I'm in denial already. :D

I know it's just fiction, I know it would be epic and glorious.

Just don't want to deal with the death of a hero of mine for the past 36 years if I can avoid it......
