Headed out next week to visit colleges with my daughter, son and wife, we'll be in the car a lot so I'd like to tether a couple of ipads off of my iPhone 4. If I sign up for tethering with ATT will I lose my grandfathered unlimited plan? Can I discontinue it when I'm back or is there a set time period like a year? What level should I try to keep the data usage below? Also, I have itether, which I purchased during the 8 or 9 nanoseconds it was on the Apple store. Haven't tried it. Thoughts?

You will loose your plan mostlikely. I believe AT&T can't get the plan back once you signed off it. I probably would get a separate device.

You can cancel the tethering plan anytime, no timeframe limit. I have used my iPhone as a hotspot on vacation also and it was easy to setup, but you will need to call AT&T to turn the feature on.

You could jailbreak and then tether for free.

I have the AT&T unlimited plan on my iPhone 4 and I tether. I'm jailbroken and use the MyWi app to allow tethering. ;-)
