I'm heading right to Best Buy from work in about 15 minutes. I have a contact at Best Buy and had him check this stock regarding the serial numbers/bootrom. He has these two in stock:

    iPhone 16gb White - 940 - $599
    iPhone 32gb White - 939 - $699

The 32gb is definitely untethered jailbreak-able but I'm going to take my chances with the 16gb. He said I can definitely return it within the 30-day return window, so - why not try it out!

I'm purchasing at retail price so I don't have to renew my contract and then I'll still have my upgrade left for next June. I'm also selling my iPhone 3G 16gb White, so if you're interested or know anyone who is, send them to me!

I have one offer (a decent one) from Craigslist but I'm thinking I might take my shot at eBay. I'll let you know how it turns out! I'm so excited.

    :)

yes! I'm so happy for you. If you think you'd use the extra 16GB you can probably recoup the extra $100 when you sell it in June. Remember to sell it as jailbroke and unlocked. Again, congrats!:)

That's right - the power of the iPhone has a powerful influence on the weak-minded. I mean, just look at us!

OK, so I picked up the 16gb with the 940 and it DOES require a tethered jailbreak. Is it worth the extra $100 for the 32gb that is 939 which should NOT require a tethered jailbreak...?

    HELP!

Only you know your money situation, but IMO it is well worth the extra cost. When I got the 3Gs, I was going for the 16GB. All Apple had at the time was 32GB so I took it and am glad I did. All other factors aside, it will have a much better resell value when that time comes.
I would also urge you to go the ebay route with your 3G. I think you will do much better simply because you have a much wider market.

If ya can return the 16gig with no problem, I'd say go for it.

Worst case scenario is that you now have a tethered jailbreak with double the space (& double the fun!) :)

    Keep us posted.

Those of us with no life need to keep up with these things! ;)

(Sure I got season four of My Name Is Earl today, but it's just not AS exciting as a new iPhone!) :eek:k:eek:k

Thanks Don. Yes, I can definitely afford it, that's no problem but again it's all dependent on how much I can sell my 3G for in regards to my final cost for my iPhone 3G. I'm figuring (low-end) if I can get $400 for the iPhone 3G 16gb, then my 3G purchase would cost $300 for getting it no-contract.

    That's not bad, right?

That sounds pretty good. Again, unless you have a super offer from Craigslist I would go the ebay route. I have always done real well selling phones on ebay.

Congrats Kaba. As others have said, the 3GS is a real joy to use, every day.

Good luck on your wheeling and dealings too :)

Thanks guys! I'm restoring it now and heading over to grab the 32gb 939-version. I should be good with that. I had an offer for $450 on Craigslist but the dude seemed really shady and haven't heard back from him since our conversation this afternoon.

Who knows. I think eBay is the way to go.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll keep you all posted!

Yeah, you would not be happy with a tethered jailbreak and no one seems to be in a rush to remedy that situation. $100 is worth the peace of mind alone. More porn on your phone is just an added bonus.

Did I just type that out loud?

Take it back. I'd pay $100 to not be tethered by itself and throw in the extra 16GB and for me it's a no brainer.

That's the trouble with Craigslist, you get a ton of call just like this one. Go ebay.
