I do do it all the time. I wouldn't do it while correcting someone else however.

Type iPhone into your iPod,iPhone, or iPhone they all begin with the small i and if you change it , it says it's incorrect .
Because iPhone, iPod & iPad are the product names. Proper grammar is to capitalize people's names. "I" counts as to not talk in the third person.
