I'm doing a fresh Time Machine and clone backup then I'm going to hope the servers are up to snuff!

Now that's a good plan.

I might hold off on my main machine right now. I've been using Lion on my MacBook Pro -- while I've enjoyed it, I haven't taken the time to research how my assorted apps will respond. Not sure I have the time to tinker, should I run into an issue.

Overall, it's super nice. I think it's an even better upgrade for laptops. Expanded use of gestures are naturally suited to the trackpad.

I should have started my clone last night. I recently re-consolidated my 75 GB iTunes library and it's taking longer than I thought to clone. :(

My only machine is my late 2010 MBP. I use it in docked/desktop mode 90% of the time and only use the mouse for GarageBand and Logic. Otherwise I use the Magic Trackpad. I'm looking forward to the expanded trackpad gestures!

I just upgraded and bought a MacBook pro about 2 weeks ago. Is there a way to get lion for free?

technically no, but you can download the torrent. i would never recommend lion. i was testing it for a while, at least the developer and it is terrible. it made my computers crash. i tried giving it a second chance before i went to romania and i had to deal with a crap computer for a week and then when i wanted to reinstall snow, i couldn't from the computer. i had to take the hard drive out and install it with another machine. again, i do not recommend this thing. think of it like vista for mac.

dude, if it was in beta, there were going to be problems. That's the whole point of the beta process. The crashes you experienced could have been due to incompatible software, not Lion itself.

And don't torrent it. If you just bought your mac 2 weeks ago, call Apple and see what they'll do for you. I wouldn't doubt they'll find some way of getting it to you. Worst case, you can trade it in for a new one with Lion preinstalled.

I bought the MacBook at a best buy and I talked to one of the Apple specialist that was there on sat and he said i would be able to. I think I might have to pay him a visit this weekend and see what he can do.

I will save you a trip... just fill out the form.

Thanks. I checked the link and saw that I'm eligible since I bought my iMac early last month. However, I had already purchased and installed Lion this morning so I called Apple to see if I could get a refund. They refunded the money and said I can expect a credit in my iTunes account in 3-5 days. :)

I'm really liking this Lion. Very slick! Gotta get used to the reverse scrolling though....

Same for me, except when I called Apple, he said that there was no phone support for this issue, I had to email them about it.
