The top half of my iPhone's screen isn't responding properly when I touch it. Would I have to send this to Apple for them to repair it, or could I just exchange it for a new one at the store?

I have similar problem..

Mine is not responding properly on very bottom part.
For example, I can't use very bottom line of keyboard.

Also, I tried everything to fix it except going Apple store.
I did reboot, reset, restore and updates, but it was not fixed.
Therefore, I'm planing to go to Apple store.
I'll tell you when I come back.

Take it to the Apple store and they will exchange it.

My roommate is on his 3rd iPhone due to this same issue.

Ha good luck. Mine had the same problem and is currently (since Monday), not in my possession as it had to be sent back to Apple for "repairs". In the meantime I was charged $30 for a loaner.

The status website reads that my phone is in (since Monday):

Step 1 - Request
Shipment to repair center pending (27-Aug-2007)

Maybe my Apple store just sucks.

Same issue here with the bottom of the screen. Took it to Apple and they gave me a new one.

mine lost a complete row just above the bottom 4 buttons... Dead zone was equal to the size of the normal icons and prevented me from text messaging... I made an appointment with the Apple store.. went it and got a new one.. Was in and out with a new phone in probably 30 minutes

I also had this problem 2 days ago. The Apple store swapped it out for a new one.
