I keep reading about turn by turn gps as a new feature in 3.0. I am not sure if there is a setting I am missing? How exactly is it supposed to work? I have a Garmin and turn by turn on that means telling me the next move after the current one is made.
I am running 3.0gm at the moment

It's not a setting, it's that Apple is now letting 3rd-party application developers make true turn-by-turn navigation apps for 3.0. TomTom and Navigon have already announced that they will be releasing navigation apps for the iPhone. Hopefully more will follow, but I'm happy that we'll have 2 great choices some time this summer.

I was told that the G3s would include turn by turn navigation. True or false?

I thought it would be included just like the Verizon plan I just left.

I though Verizon charged $10 a month for the TBT. They did charge me after a month free. It's called VZNavigator? Clunky interface on the Storm.

With the graphics and processing power of the 3Gs, I'm hoping for something that rivals dedicated GPS units.

False. You will need to get it in an app.

The Tom Tom app should be pretty dang close to a dedicated GPS unit. They will be selling the turn by turn app along with a window mount for the phone so it will look exactly like a real GPS unit.

I think with the $30 data package Verizon includes the Navigation (and turn by turn).

Well I had the BlackBerry $99 mail and internet package so I got charged $10 on top of that.

There was a BB Maps program that might have had TBT, but the VZNavigator was the one I paid for.

The TomTom app will show up soon and I hope they let you do the evaluation with the promise of a refund if you don't like it. I got a feeling the app will cost at least $40 and if I don't like it I'd like to not be charged for it.

this is not a regular phone. They will learn that charging 10 bucks a month is bs. I am willing to bet that tomtom will sell the app straihgt out for 29.99 a year most likely.

For them to charge $9.99 per month, it makes sense to just buy a GPS. After a year, you're going to be at $120, which you can get a nice unit for on its own.

I hope TomTom is just a one-time purchase. Or an annual charge.

TRUE, BUT....................

It is not part of the maps applicationt that comes with the iPhone. Tom Tom is waking a turn by turn gps app. Idk when it'll be out and how much it'll cost. They're also making an optional car kit to go with it. It lets u mount your iPhone on the winshield/dashboard and gives u hands free control of your iPhone also. It u want more info, watch the keynote from WWDC 2009.
